The topographic map set of Egypt includes the Sinai Peninsula maps, Red Sea maps, Mount Sinai or Moses’ Mountain maps, Suez Canal maps, maps of the river Nile and maps of the lake Nasser. The map set features as well Ras Mohammed maps, Nabkh and Abu Galum maps and maps of Kephren Pyramid, Cheops and Mycerinos Pyramid maps. Egypt is situated in the north-east of Africa, while part of its territory, the Sinai Peninsula, is in Asia. The border between the two continents lies along the Suez Canal. The total area of the country is 1 mln sq km. Egypt borders on Israel in the north-east, Libya in the west and Sudan in the south. In the east, Egypt is washed by the Red Sea - one of the warmest and cleanest salt seas in the world.
Mountains. Mount Sinai or Moses’ Mountain is 2,285 m high. There are two paths leading to the top of the mountain – one is short, but quite steep; the other is more gentle-sloping, yet longer. There are stairs there, which were cut by monks in the rock.
Rivers. The River Nile is the vital water artery, the river, around which the Egyptians try to settle. The river flows through the whole of Egypt from the Sudanese border to the Mediterranean Sea, for 1, 500 km.
Lakes. Lake Nasser is the largest man-made lake in the world. It is about 550 km long and its surface area is over 5,250 sq km. The lake was created in 1970 during the construction of the world-famous Great Dam.
National Parks and Reserves. In Egypt, there are a lot of national parks and conservation areas, but basically they are rarely visited and inaccessible.
The most famous national parks located on the Sinai Peninsula include Ras Mohammed, Nabkh and Abu Galum.
Sightseeing.
The whole country is filled with pieces of unique ancient Egypt heritage. Egypt has a history of over six thousand years; therefore, unique monuments of ancient culture still found in Egypt attract huge numbers of tourists from all over the world every year. The most important symbol of Egypt is pyramids, of which there are hundreds in Egypt and they have a variety of shapes and sizes.
On the outskirts of Cairo, Giza, there is a true architectural ensemble, consisting of the three highest pyramids in Egypt. The Pyramid of Cheops is the most significant and prominent among them (completed around 2590 BC). The Pyramid of Kephren is the second largest pyramid, built 40 years later than the Pyramid of Cheops. The ensemble of great Giza pyramids is completed by the Pyramid of Mycerinos. Its construction is thought to have been completed in 2505 BC;
Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city on the African continent;
The Khan al-Khalili handicraft bazaar is the biggest market in the East, which occupies not less than an area of 5 sq km;
Nubia is a historic area in the middle reach of the Nile, which extends from the first Nile rapids near Aswan in the north and nearly reaches Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, in the south. It has one more collection of monuments;
Aswan is a town, located on the Nile about 1,000 km south of Cairo and it has been a trading center on a caravan route over the centuries;
Alexandria is the second largest city of Egypt, a unique place for recreation and entertainment;
Beni Hassan is a necropolis located on the east bank of the river, 20 km south of El-Minia;
Luxor is a small town on the right bank of the Nile, which is 500 km south of Cairo. This is the crown jewel of Egypt;
The city of Mersa Matruh, located 290 km from Alexandria, can be called in some sense the capital of the Egyptian Riviera;
Bahari is the oasis of the West Desert, closest to Cairo;
Farafra is a small oasis, 185 km south of Bahari. The administrative center of the oasis, Al Qasr, still has the ruins of an ancient fortress;
Kharg is an oasis in the West Desert, 200 km from the Dahla Oasis, 520 km from the Farafra Oasis and 235 km south of Assiut. The town of El-Kharg is the administrative center of the oasis and a major town in the New Valley province;
The city of Port Said, located 200 km north-east of the capital, is the sea gateway of Egypt;
A necropolis known as the Valley of Mummies is an area in the Bahari Oasis in the West Desert of Egypt;
The Sinai Peninsula is the peninsula that connects Africa with Asia. The Sinai Peninsula wedges into the Red Sea and borders on the Suez Gulf in the west and the Gulf of Aqaba in the east;
Naama Bay is the most famous tourist destination in Sharm el-Sheikh, a wonderful bay with a huge concentration of high-end hotels, nightclubs, casinos, restaurants, sports fields, underwater swimming clubs and shops. It is one of the best locations for windsurfing;
The Bay of Sharm el-Maya, located just 7 km from Naama Bay, has a cozy haven, one of the best anchorages on the Red Sea coast, which is also famous for its beaches, hotels and entertainment;
The town of Dahab, located 100 km north-west of Sharm el-Sheikh, is justly considered one of the best places for diving on the Sinai Peninsula;
Nueyba is a developing resort, where a large number of hotels and entertainment centers at different levels are built and a beach area is created.
Tourism. The most famous and most often visited Egyptian resorts include Hurghada and the idle-life Sharm el-Sheikh. Other popular youth resorts include Dahab and Al Gunna.
Climate. On the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt has a subtropical climate, and the average January temperature is +12°C, while the average July temperature is +26°C. In the hinterland, the climate is hot continental, with the average temperatures of + 22°C in January and +37°C in July. Winters are mild, with warm sunny days and sometimes cool nights. The period from July to October is the hottest time of the year in Egypt, while January is the coldest month. There are a lot of sunny days and there is virtually no rain here.
