Navigators: from the time of appearance until today

History of navigators amounts almost 100 years, during which navigators were able to pass a rapid path from primitive mechanical devices to cutting-edge gadgets with advanced technologies.

First navigators appeared in 1920. It was uncomplicated devices made like wristwatches. The set includes maps. If a person is going on the road, he looked for the right map, insert it into a mechanical device and scrolls as he moves along the route and approaches a given point.

In 1930 was first created a car navigator. The main difference from the portable model – that here map is scrolled in automatic mode with a speed proportional to the speed of the machine. Of course, this device helped motorists on the road. However, as well delivered a lot of trouble. Once strayed off the route, you need to make an emergency stop to determine location and insert another map in the device.

Navigators of the next generation appeared in 1966 when General Motors announced a system designed to assist the driver in the trip. Navigator worked using punched maps and tells you when to turn or slow down.

In 1957 Socialist Republics of the Soviet Union made an unprecedented breakthrough, sending into orbit a satellite of our planet and thus inaugurating a new era of navigation. Meanwhile, American scientists have found that knowing the location of the satellite it is possible to calculate its own position and calculate the speed of movement. In 1974 the United States has begun to implement GPS- technology.

In 1976 the USSR began to develop GLONASS navigation system, a fundamental difference from the American counterpart is the fact that there is no rotation of the satellites of resonance with the rotation of the globe, which causes greater stability of GLONASS satellites.

Initially both navigation technologies were created for military purposes. First GPS- receiver appeared in the U.S. military. It was a double unit on wheels with a mass greater than 120 kg.

In 1985 in the United States went on sale navigator for ordinary users. The route is displayed on the screen of green color. Maps are stored on tape.

In 1995 navigator has been developed and designed to work with GPS, GLONASS. However it was not available to the mass market.

Only in 2000 on the open market appeared the first smartphone with GPS. But the first smartphone with GLONASS receiver was released later - in 2011.

Now, almost all cars at factory are set with navigators. However, manufacturers are on the watch and offer consumers improved devices. For example, a navigator is equipped with projector, which informs the driver about the need to turn. If you synchronize with navigator your smartphone based on Android or iOS via Bluetooth and run a special application, the navigator will be informed about traffic jams on the road.

For motorcyclists is offered a navigator that is mounted directly into the helmet. Thanks to the advanced software rider receives information about areas with adverse weather conditions.

Nowadays consumers are offered a variety of navigation gadgets. One of the newest developments is - "smart watches" that work in conjunction with an application on your smartphone. As a result, a clue where to drive are displayed directly on a wristwatch.

Now - the choice is yours.
