Macedonia is a country on the Balkan Peninsula. Macedonia borders on Serbia and Montenegro in the north, Bulgaria in the east, Greece in the south and Albania in the west. The area of Macedonia is 25,000 sq km. The total length of the borders of Macedonia is 766 km.

Relief. The greater part of Macedonia took the medium mountains (up to 2764 m high) with flat tops and steep slopes. The mountains are separated by tectonic downward occupied by lakes (Lakes Ohrid and Prespan) or river valleys (the Vardar River). In the north-west, on the border of Macedonia with Kosovo, is Titov, the largest mountain in Macedonia (2748 m) and Lake Prespan Ohrid in the south-western part of Macedonia is the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. The Vardar River runs through the center of the country and its capital, Skopje.

Mountains.

Macedonia is located in the two major mountain ranges: in the far western mountains Pindus, the extension of Dinarskogo highlands, and the lower Rhodope. The highest mountain ranges - the mountain-top Titov (2748 m), Tsrna-Hill, Doganitsa, Osogovska-Planina and Maleshevska-Planina, Belasitsa, Koziak, Kozhuf, Korabi with a top height of Korab 2754 m (the highest point of the country) and Jablanica.

Also in the territory of Macedonia are Preshevsko-Kumanovo Hollow, Shtipskaya and Kochanskaya depression, Radovishskaya and Valandovsko-Doyranskaya depression, Strumica, Ohridskaya and Prespanskaya depression, Prilepsko-Bitol Depression.

Provided Karadzhitsa Alpine mountains, the highest point, which is a mountain Solunska Chapter, 2,538 m.

Rivers. The biggest river Vardar Macedonia with its tributaries Tsrna, Bregalnitsa, Pchinya, Treska, Babuna and Topolka crosses the entire country from north to south-east. Almost all the rivers belong to the basin of the Aegean Sea. The exception is the river Drina, stemming from Lake Ohrid and flows into the Adriatic Sea. Another important river in Macedonia is the Strumica River.

Lakes. On the territory of Macedonia, many lakes, the largest of which are Ohrid, Prespa, Dodzhran. Their total land area is 679 sq km. Lake Doiran is located in the south-east, on the border with Greece.

National Parks and Reserves. In Macedonia, the three large national parks: Pelister (west of Bitola), Galichits (between Lakes Ohrid and Prespan) and Mavrovo (between Ohrid and Tetovo).

Other famous national parks include forest Krusevo clear who has received a national park.

Sightseeing.

Skopje is the capital of the country, known since the times of the Roman Empire. Skopje is divided into two sections – the Old City, populated predominantly by Muslim Albanians, and the new, Zarechny Skopje, populated by Macedonians.

Bitola is the second largest city in the country, located at the south, near the border with Greece. The major attraction of the city is the ruins of ancient Geraklea Lintsestis built by Philip II of Macedonia in the 4th century BC.

This pearl of Macedonia is Lake Ohrid (area 358 sq km, the depth to 285 m), situated at an altitude of 695 meters above sea level at the Albanian border, and, apparently, the United underground karst cavities Lake Prespa. This is one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in Europe, one of the oldest lakes in the world and the popular resort area.

Struga is a small town in the northern tip of Lake Ohrid - divided into two parts by the Krni Dream, which is derived from the lake and flows into the Adriatic Sea near Shkodry in Albania.

Galichnik is a city in Macedonia, which is known for its recorded and oral traditions and folklore.

Tourism.

Hiking in the Pelister, Galichits and Mavrovo National Parks;
Alpine tourism in Popova Hat (1845 m), the most attractive ski resort in Macedonia, situated on the southern slopes of Shar-Planina, west of Tetovo. Other ski and recreational centers in Krani, Krusevo, Pelister, Nidzha, Galichits, Yakupitsa in the Pelagonija Valley and Banishta are now being built;
Boating on Lake Ohrid.

Climate. Macedonia has a Mediterranean climate. In this climate, warm summers and moderately cool winters are typical, with uneven distribution of rainfall during the year. The average annual temperature is 11°C-12°C. The average temperature in July ranges from 21°C -23°C, while January it is about 0°C. The average annual rainfall is 500-700 mm.
