Japan is a state in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean near the coast of Eastern Asia. Japan is situated on four large islands: Honshu (three fifths of the territory of the country), Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and a number of small ones stretching archwise over about 3,500 km from Hokkaido in the northeast to the Ryukyu Islands in the southwest. Japan is separated from the southeastern coast of Russia, the eastern coast of the Democratic People`s Republic of Korea, and the Republic of Korea by the Sea of Japan; from China by the East China Sea. The southwestern tip of Japan and the southeastern Korea are separated by the Korea Strait. The area of Japan is 377,800 sq km.
Relief. The relief of Japan is mountainous – 85% of the territory of the Japan Archipelago is occupied by mountains. The flora is diverse. More than 188 volcanoes are located on the Japan Islands, and more than 40 of them are active. Japan is a very seismic region.

Between Tokyo and Yokohama the city of Kawasaki (also merged with Tokyo) is located, where one should visit Nihon Minkaen Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum in Ikuta region.
