The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country situated in South-West Asia in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The United Arab Emirates is bounded by Saudi Arabia in the west and south and Oman in the south-east and north-east (Oman’s enclave of Madhu). The United Arab Emirates is washed by the Persian and the Oman Gulfs. The area of the UAE is 83,600 sq km. The United Arab Emirates consist of 7 emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, Umm al-Kuveyn, Fujairah and Sharjah.
Relief. The United Arab Emirates occupy a desert lowland plain along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. To the east, there is a rocky plateau, which changes to the Hajar Mountains (the highest peak of the UAE is Mount Ibir, 1527 m). In the west and south of the UAE, there are sandy and stony deserts (El Midzhan, Al-Jazeera, Al-Mugrib, Khatam, etc.). In the extreme north-west of the UAE lie moving sand dunes. The Persian Gulf coastline is heavily cut by small bays.
Rivers. There are no perennial rivers in the UAE - for most of the year, these are dry river beds, which offer exciting tours, extremely popular with tourists. Rivers can be seen filled with water only during the rain season.
National parks and Reserves. In the UAE, there are reserves on the Sir-Baniyaz and Hor-Kalb Islands.
Sightseeing. The UAE is a true treasury of ancient heritage and cultural monuments, which are visited every year by tens of thousands of tourists from different parts of the globe.
Abu Dhabi is the largest Emirate and capital of the country. Today it is one of the most modern cities in the East, which is famous for its large green parks. The best time to relax is from October to April, when the air temperature is 20-35 degrees Celsius.
Dubai, the city of dreams for any avant-garde architect or an enterprising businessman, the capital of the Dubai Emirate, brings visitors into the world of the technological future.
The Hajar Mountains, blossoming fertile valleys, beautiful streams descending from rocks appear before the eyes of tourists, who prefer to relax in the quiet Fujairah Emirate, rather than plunge into the hustle and bustle of modern life in the UAE.
Ras Al-Khaimah is the most ancient city of the UAE, the capital of the Ras Al-Khaimah Emirate, first mentioned in Arabic ancient chronicles in 695 BC, in the time when the seaport of Djulfar existed. It invites to its blossoming vast areas those tourists who believe that simlicity and exoticism is the key to an excellent vacation. Together with the islands Bigger Tunub and Smaller Tunub, the Ras Al-Khaimah Emirate is the most northern part of the country and has the most fertile lands in the UAE, which makes this area a unique colorful oasis.
Bordering on Dubai, Ajman and Fujairah, the third largest emirate, Sharjah, is the only "state" in the United Arab Emirates, and the crystal clear waters of Persia and the Gulf of Oman are laced by its sandy beaches. The capital of the Sharjah Emirate lies on the shores of the Persian Gulf. And there are well-known diving centers on the shores of the Gulf of Oman, in such towns as Kalb, Korfakkan and Dabba Al-Hasna.
Tourism.
Sunshine, sea, fantastic beaches, breathtaking scenery, the warmth and hospitality of the people added together make the United Arab Emirates one of the most popular tourist destinations.
The country invests heavily in tourism, and its annual calendar is very densely filled with various events, such as the Dubai Shopping Festival, the Dubai Summer Surprise, the Abu Dhabi Shopping Festival, the Sharjah festival of Ramadan, a number of fairs, exhibitions, museums and sporting events.
Climate. In the UAE, a subtropical climate prevails. Sandstorms are common here. The temperature in summer is 30°C to 35°C, while the winter temperature ranges from 20°C to 23°C. To the east, in Fujairah, the summer is cooler and more humid. Rainfall reaches about 100 mm per year and 300-400 mm per year in the mountains.
