The set of topographic maps of Jordan includes Dead Sea maps and Aqaba maps. You will also find Jabal Ram maps, Mukavir maps, Mount Citadel maps, Golan Heights maps, Mount Hermon (Jabal Sheikh) maps and Wadi Rum Desert maps. Besides there are maps of the river Jordan, Ez-Zarqa maps, Magar, Benni-Mura maps, En-Naam maps, Et-Tuba and Yarmuk maps and also maps of the lakes Chinnereth, Chinneroth, Hinnereth maps, Gennesareth and Tiberias maps.
Jordan is an Arab country in the Middle East. It has land boundaries with Syria in the north, Iraq in the north-east, Saudi Arabia in the east and south, and Israel and Palestine in the West. Jordan shares the Dead Sea coastline with Israel and Palestine and the Gulf of Aqaba with Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The total area of Jordan is of 89,213 sq km.
Relief. The mainland (90%) of Jordan is occupied by desert plateaux, while there are hills and mountains in the west. The Jordan River separates Jordan and Israel. The highest peak of the country is Jabal Ram (1,734 m), while the lowest is the Dead Sea (-486 m).
Mountains. Mount Nebo is an honoured place in Jordan. A breathtaking view of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea opens up from the platform in front of a church on top of the mountain.
Mukavir (the ancient Makayros) is the modern name of the hill, which has the ruins of the palace of Herod the Great.
Other noteworthy mountains in Jordan include Mount Citadel (the Citadel), the Golan Heights, Mount Hermon (Jabal Sheikh).
Rivers. The most important river of Jordan is the Jordan River with its tributaries Ez-Zarqa, Magar, Benni-Mura, En-Naam, Et-Tuba and Yarmuk.
Lakes. The lakes of Jordan include notably the Sea of Galilee, a freshwater lake, which is about 20 km long and about 12 km wide and is located in the area between Galilee and the Bashan pastures. The greatest depth of the lake is 60m, while its surface is 240m below the Mediterranean Sea. It also called the Sea of Chinnereth, Lake Chinneroth, the Sea of Hinnereth, Lake Gennesareth and the Sea of Tiberias.
National Parks and Reserves. The nature reserves of Jordan include the Azrak National Park, the Wadi Rum Desert National Park and the Mujib Reserve situated on the Dead Sea.
Sightseeing.
The Dead Sea is a unique natural monument and natural hospital. The surface of this salt lake is 400 m below the sea level and it is considered the most salty body of water on the planet.
The ancient city of Petra is one of the treasures of Jordan. Petra’s most important feature is its exciting location in the heart of the desert. The city is located in the mountains, which, depending on the time of the day, turn pink, dark red, purple or orange.
The city of Amman, the capital of modern Jordan, is a major commercial and administrative center with a large number of excellent hotels, restaurants, art galleries and museums.
The city is crowned by the Citadel, a hill with the ruins of the temple of Hercules, where there is an archaeological museum nowadays.
Madaba is a town, 30 km south of Amman, famous for its Byzantine mosaics, including the Map of Madaba, a mosaic map of Palestine, dating back to the 6th cent.
Tourism. Aqaba is a resort on the Red Sea in the northern part of the Gulf of Aqaba. The rocks surrounding the city change their color every few hours. The mountains in Aqaba form a special microclimate in the area, so here you can swim all year round because during the winter months, the water temperature never drops below 22 degrees Celsius. In Aqaba, there are 4 diving centers and 24 diving spots.
The Wadi Rum Desert is one of the landmarks of Jordan, where climbers can make fascinating ascents, while those who like walking can enjoy the tranquillity of rocks and plains.
The Dead Sea is a unique natural monument and a natural health resort. The Dead Sea is situated in the heart of the Jordan Valley. The Dead Sea possesses healing properties. There are a large number of mud baths there.
Climate. The climate of Jordan is subtropical, mediterranean and dry. The average temperatures range from +8°C to +14°C in January and from +24°C to +30°C in July. The average annual rainfall is from 25-50 mm up to 200 mm in the south-east, while in the north-west it varies from 300 to 800 mm. The greatest amount of precipitation falls during the cold period (November to March).
