21st March, 1935 Persia was renamed in Iran
On the 21st of March, 1935 Persia was officially renamed. From this moment on the map of Asia appeared the state of Iran. According to the authorities, foreign representatives were not allowed to use the name "Persia."
This decision was taken by Shah Reza Pahlavi, who became the founder of the Pahlavi dynasty. According to his policy, this change had to contribute to the rise of the national spirit and to the overcoming of foreign domination.
During the reign of the Pahlavi dynasty (since 1925) the official name of the state was Shahanshask State of Iran or simply Iran. However, in European official documents and maps the country was still called Persia.
If you examine the map of the world, you’ll see that Iran is situated in the South-East Asia, between the Indian Ocean in the south and the Caspian Sea to the north. It borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Iraq.
