Offline navigation in Google Maps
At the conference held a few days ago vice president of Google for engineering and product management Jen Fitzpatrick announced that by the end of the year Google Maps map will be updated, presenting more opportunities to work offline.
On the I/O developer conference in 2012 Google for the first time had demonstrated offline maps. Then, users could select a specific area on Google Maps and save it for later use offline. In the offline maps GPS-enabled device can also display a blue dot positioning, as well as in online.
Now Google claim that users can search for specific locations within the offline region and even view ratings and other information, without any differences from operating online. In addition, Internet connection is no required for step navigating.
Also, representatives of Google have announced that they will try to make map more convenient for local people. For example, India will develop a navigation system on the railways.
