Yekaterinburg is situated in Asia, on the eastern slope of the Middle Urals, on the banks of the Iset River (it flows into the Tobol).
The rivers flowing in the Yekaterinburg area include the Chusovaya, the Iset, the Sylva, the Vogulka, the Bisert, the Pyshma, the Neiva and the Bagaryak. The Chusovaya River is one of the most beautiful rivers in the Sverdlovsk region.
The largest water reservoirs found in the Yekaterinburg area include: Lake Shartash, the most popular vacation spot for the natives of Yekaterinburg Lake Peshchanoye, the Verkhnemakarovskoe Reservoir, Lake Baltym, Lake Tavatuy, the Upper Neyva Reservoir, the Volchikha Reservoir and the Upper Iset Reservoir. What is peculiar about Lake Talkov Kamen is that its shores form high, almost vertical ledges 20-30 m long. Ganina Yama, a popular attraction, is found near Lake Isetskoe. Lakes Silach, Sungul, Kirety, Irtyash, Itkul, Okunkul, Ulagach, Argazi and Chebarkul and the Verkhneuralski Reservoir are popular places for fishing.
The most popular tourist attractions are: mount Volchikha, Chyortovo Gorodishche(City of the Devil), the Staraya Linza Quarry, the Staraya Utka District, the Olenyi Ruchyi Natural Park, Cave Druzhba, the towns Nevyansk and Tavolgi, the town of Miass, such skiing resorts as the Uktus sports centre, mount Listvennaya, Stozhok, mount Belaya, the Motaikha (Iset) base, mount Pilnaya, mount Volchiha and mount Tyoplaya.
As for sights of the city it’s necessary to mention the City Basin dam on the Iset River, Rastorguev-Kharitonov Estate, Tarasov Estate on the City Pond embankment, the Literary Quarter, the Ascension Church, the Church on the Blood, Zheleznov Estate, the active Novo-Tikhvin Convent and St. Alexander’s Cathedral.
